After installing Tiger13 I still have Tiger12 on my disc but I cannot manage to activate it in the CP interface (the only choice
Create two folders RT12 and RT13 copy chesstiger.dll and tiger.dll from the tiger 2 directory to RT13 copy the same files from the old tiger dir in RT12 To switch engines just copy the files from one of those directories into the install directory.
You can even write to small batch files for it to automate it:
--- tiger2.bat ---
copy RT13\*.dll
CP5.exe
-----------------
--- tiger1.bat ---
copy RT12\*.dll
CP5.exe

The filter function does not seem to work on the Century database ?
There is a small bug in the filter function. It requires the database files to be writable. Thus running of CD-ROM won't work. A workaround is to copy both the .ldb and the .ldx file to your hard disk and make sure the read only attribute is cleared.

What are the strongest settings for short time controls ?
If you have a fast computer (200MHz or more), I would simply suggest at short
time controls (G/5 or faster):
1) do NOT give it too much hash tables. 4 Mb will be enough. If you give more
than that, the time spent in clearing or updating the hash tables at each move
will weaken the program
2) close all unnecessary windows (for example the book window) and toolbars.
3) do not move the mouse when the program is thinking. On some computers, this
slows down the program tremendously.
You can give the program more hash tables when you play at G/15 or slower.
Then go to the Rebel Home Page (www.rebel.nl) and look for the new, more
effective, engine settings (NSEW=1 and MoreSel=1).
Also it seems that changing the "contempt factor" can help Tiger a little bit.
In the engine properties page, set the "score for a draw" to the value "-10"
(that means a tenth of a pawn).
Last thing: make sure that the "analysis brain" is OFF when you play a game.

When Tiger is pondering a move till lets say 12 ply, and the opponent is playing that move, Tiger nevertheless start computing a
You probably have the 'analyse brain' option turned on, this option should only be used when analyzing games. During normal play on the the 'permanent brain' option should be checked.

The name of the opening and the ECO code is not displayed ?
This is a function of the chess engine, this is not (yet) supported by the chess tiger engine. Only when you select the standard Lokasoft engine the opening name is displayed.

How can I automatically save the games played with the auto232 player ?
Before you start the auto232 match, open a database. It can be a new one, or an existing database. Then start the Auto232 match. All the games will be saved in the database, with date, name of opponents, and result of every game.

How can I automatically save the games played on ICC/FICS ?
In the internet console properties check the 'Auto save game' option, then make sure you have a database open. All games either played by you or by the program are saved.

In Analyze mode the program only searched 6 or 7 ply's deep, how come ?
This is a known bug, this happens when a level with a fixed time per move is selected. Workaround is to select a different level.

The Select user book function is grayed. Why ?
The user book is a function of the chess engine, if the engine does not support this function the menu is grayed. The Rebel-Tiger engine does not (yet) support a user book.

I cannot seem to get the new Tiger program to use an opening book despite there being a ct.bk file in the folder. It is not empt
We did some investigations, and found there is indeed a way to loose the
tiger book. Normally when the tiger engine is started for the first time
it stores the current directory and uses this to find it's book and learning
files. If during the game the current directory changes, the still find it's
book. The current directory can change if you open a internet console from
a directory different from the install dir.
What probably happened, you selected the Lokasoft engine or the winboard
adapter, played a bit with it, maybe created a user book, this caused the
current directory to change. Then switch back to the tiger engine, which
again looks in the current dir, and of course can not find it's book file.
To recover, select tiger engine, save settings, exit, restart.

How can I use the Nalimov tablebases ?
You can't, this is not supported in the current release. Using the Lokasoft engine you can use the Ken Thompson endgames.
